This Adventurous Couples Session at Horseshoe Bend was a BUCKET LIST LOCATION! I’ve ALWAYS wanted to photograph a session at Horseshoe Bend, so when my husband and I set off on our 3-week cross-country road trip in March, we added it as one of our stops. I posted a model call on Instagram for couples up for a session at Horseshoe Bend and Verna is one of my followers who was interested.
Couples Session at Horseshoe Bend
We met up with Verna and her boyfriend, Cadence, at Horseshoe Bend and had the BEST time with them. The wind, Verna’s flowy dress, and their love for one another made this a dream session! Plus, the beauty of Horseshoe Bend truly speaks for itself in their photos!
Tips for Horseshoe Bend Photos
Horseshoe Bend is located in northern Arizona and is part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Less than a 10-minute drive from Page, AZ, will take you straight to the parking lot. From there it’s a short walk to the red canyon walls featuring the Colorado River running through it. As a photographer, you don’t need a permit to photograph at Horseshoe Bend, unless you’re photographing a wedding (you’ll need a special use permit). Otherwise, be prepared to pay an entrance fee and a parking fee.
Horseshoe Bend is a tourist destination, so it’s BUSY! If possible I’d aim to plan your session for a weekday. Though it looks like we were the only people in the world at Horseshoe, we weren’t. By being strategic with angles and where I placed Verna and Cadence, I was able to keep tourists out of my shots. Trying to showcase the uniqueness and beauty of Horseshoe Bend without getting a bunch of people in the background was truly a challenge!
This is your sign to go to the places you’ve always wanted to photograph, and create the portfolio you’ve always dreamed of. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made for my photography business!
