Marketing Tips for Small Businesses

Hey small business owners! This blog is for you. We’re talking about marketing tips that’ll help you succeed and grow in your industry. So let’s get right into it!

Identify your ideal audience.

The first thing you need to identify: who are you marketing to? Couples? Engaged couples? Families? Teenagers? Once you know who you’re targeting, you’ll make all of your content based around your audience.

It also helps to know your niche! So if you haven’t decided on a niche yet, take some time + narrow down what direction you want your business to go. Marketing is all about your content resonating with your audience, so it helps to know who your audience is right away.

Social Media is free marketing, so utilize it.

Once of the best ways to market your business (literally for free) is by using social media. Social media has become one of the most effective ways to market yourself, and many businesses rely on their social media marketing to bring in a large amount of their customers. Which means…social media is kinda a big deal (so treat it that way!!) Once you know your ideal audience, start creating content for them on social media. Here’s a few ideas for you:

  • Write captions for your audience.
  • Share tips that’ll help your ideal audience.
  • Share photos that your ideal audience will connect with or relate to.
  • Entertain your ideal audience.
  • Create graphics that’lll attract your ideal audience.

Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket.

When it comes to marketing, don’t put all of your hope + faith into one means of marketing. Who knows, one day Instagram might completely vanish! So give yourself multiple marketing strategies and really focus in on the 2-3 that work best for you.

I’ve found that narrowing down my means of marketing has not only helped me become more specialized in those areas, but it’s helped me streamline my marketing. What main ways do customers find your business? Social media? SEO? Yelp? Take the reins on those marketing strategies + put more time and energy into making them even more effective for your business. That might even mean setting 1-5 hours per week for producing content, creating strategizes, and implementing ideas for your marketing.

Build relationships with other businesses & vendors locally.

If you want to market yourself locally, connecting with local vendors + businesses is going to be huge for you! Not only can you refer each other, but you can also collaborate with each other and help each other grow.

View your local businesses and vendors as customers too – give them the best experience with you as possible! That means asking them to review you, asking their feedback on your product or services, asking how you can serve them, etc. Local vendors are so great to work with, and once you have those relationships established, you can start to help each other grow in your industry! Small businesses unite!
