I finally got to photograph a couples session in Zion National Park!! And wowwwww this bucket list location is incredible!

Jessica and Christian live in Hurricane, UT, and made the trip to Zion National Park for their couples photos. Jessica is an aspiring photographer who follows me on Instagram and got in touch when she heard I wanted to set up a shoot in Zion. We all had a fantastic time together!

Couples Session in Zion at Canyon Overlook

We did Jessica and Christian’s photos at the Canyon Overlook Trail in Zion. To get to the overlook, we did the short half a mile hike to the top. This is one of the shortest hikes in Zion that leads to an epic overlook and evidently, it was well worth it!

This session was at the beginning of March, so it was a bit chilly and there was a layer of pretty snow on the ground! I loved Jessica and Christian’s neutral outfits which really allowed them to stand out against the red rocks with snow! Zion is known to be a super busy park during warmer times of the year, but we had the whole area to ourselves which was a dream!

About Photos at Zion National Park

Zion National Park is located in southwest Utah and the landscape of massive red sandstone cliffs is mind-blowing. It’s definitely a place you have to see for yourself to even grasp how incredible it is!

Zion is one of the most popular national parks to visit. During warmer months, May through October, the parking can get crazy! If you’re planning a session or wedding here during the busy time of year then seriously consider your plan for parking and driving. It’d be worth it to do a weekday session at sunrise otherwise, you might be dealing with a lot of tourists and traffic.

Do you need a photo permit for Zion?

For normal photo sessions at Zion, you don’t need a permit as a photographer. However, a special use permit is required for all weddings and elopements at Zion regardless of how many guests there are. So as a photographer, you only need to make sure your couple has a special use permit for their wedding here. You can find all the info you need about planning a wedding at Zion on the National Park website here! For more info on if you need a permit for photos/filming at Zion check out this page!
