When Kayla and Dawson reached out about capturing their Edinburgh Scotland engagement photos while I was already traveling in Scotland, I absolutely couldn’t say no! As a Grand Rapids, Michigan photographer, getting to document love stories in such epic international locations is always a dream come true. They had just gotten engaged during their Edinburgh trip and wanted to celebrate with some playful, candid images at one of Scotland’s most stunning coastal ruins.
We met up at Tantalon Castle for their session, and I immediately knew we were in for something magical. The 14th-century castle ruins perched dramatically on the cliffs overlooking the Firth of Forth created the most cinematic backdrop imaginable. The midday light was absolutely perfect, giving us those true-to-color tones that made the red sandstone and coastal views pop.
Kayla and Dawson brought such a playful energy to their shoot, running around the ruins and exploring every corner together. Their natural chemistry made my job so easy as I captured candid moments of them laughing, dancing, and simply being themselves. These two were totally game for adventure, which is exactly my favorite type of couple to work with.
The cliffs surrounding Tantalon offered some of the most spectacular views I’ve ever photographed. We took advantage of the dramatic coastline, letting the wind whip through their hair as they embraced with the North Sea stretching endlessly behind them. Every frame felt like a scene from a movie, which was exactly the cinematic vibe we were going for.
