As a Michigan Luxury Wedding Photographer, I’m always thrilled when couples choose iconic venues like Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan for their big day – and Merin & Darren’s September wedding did not disappoint! From the moment I arrived, I knew this documentary-style celebration would be filled with genuine moments, bold magenta florals by Thistle Floral (@thistledownfloral), and the kind of playful energy that makes my job pure joy.
We started the day with not one, not two, but THREE first looks that had me reaching for tissues behind my camera! Merin’s reaction to seeing Darren was pure magic, but watching her reveal her stunning Beckers Bridal gown to her dad brought tears to everyone’s eyes. The groomsmen’s first look was the perfect mix of excitement and those classic guy hugs that documentary photographers live for – these are the candid, true-to-color moments that tell your real story.
Merin looked absolutely radiant thanks to the talented Payton Stuck (@hair_by_paytonjoy) and Vicki (@ickyvikii) who created her gorgeous hair and makeup. The bridal party looked stunning in chocolate brown dresses that perfectly complemented the magenta blooms, while the groomsmen from Men’s Warehouse kept it classic in sharp black suits.
The ceremony on the lawn was pure perfection, followed by portrait sessions throughout the property that showcased why Frederik Meijer Gardens is a dream venue for couples from Detroit to Traverse City to Saugatuck. We explored everything from the enchanting butterfly exhibit to the lush outdoor gardens, capturing genuine laughter and sweet moments in that beautiful September light that Michigan does so well.
The reception hall came alive with dancing, celebration, and the most delicious Nothing Bundt Cakes that had guests raving all night!
